Francesca Woodman

This photo was appealing to me because I wasn't sure what was coming out of her mouth.  It captivating me and kept me looking at the photo to guess what was going on.

This photo is interesting, the longer I look at it, the more I find.  The woman is sitting and looks embarrassed but comfortable.  I originally thought the dark figure on the ground was her shadow but it is actually an outline of another person.  The surroundings are unkempt, like the woman in the photo.

This photo gives me goosebumps.  The long exposure caused the figure to be blurry - looking ghost-like.  She seems to be falling.  The shadows and dark to light comparison in this photo keeps the eye focused on the figure.

Kelli Kettell: Francesca Woodman was an American photographer best known for her black and white pictures featuring herself and female models. Many of her photographs show young women who are nude, blurred (due to movement and longexposure times), merging with their surroundings, or whose faces are obscured. Her work continues to be the subject of much critical acclaim and attention, years after she committed suicide at the age of 22.  Although Woodman used different cameras and film formats during her career, most of her photographs were taken with medium format cameras producing 2-1/4 by 2-1/4 inch (5.7 by 5.7 cm) square negatives. Woodman created at least 10,000 negatives, which her parents now keep.  Most of Woodman's prints are 8 by 10 inches (20 by 25 cm) or smaller, which "works to produce an intimate experience between viewer and photograph".
