Photojournalism vs. Fine arts photography
The first photo is an example of photojournalism, which is a photo meant to tell the story of a news event. The second photo is an example of fine arts photography, which is a photo that is set to the artist's vision.
Wide angle lens--focal length is substantially smaller than the focal length of a normal lens for a given film plane. This type of lens allows more of the scene to be included in thephotograph, which is useful in architectural, interior and landscape photography where the photographer may not be able to move farther from the scene to photograph it.
Normal lens--reproduces a field of view that generally looks "natural" to a human observer under normal viewing conditions, as compared with lenses with longer or shorter focal lengths which produce an expanded or contracted field of view that distorts the perspective when viewed from a normal viewing distance.
Telephoto lens--specific type of a long-focus lens in which the physical length of the lens is shorter than the focal length.
